Washing Ugg Boots - How To Clean Your Uggs

Washing Ugg Boots - How To Clean Your Uggs

As winter has well and truly hit us here in Australia, it's time to put our ugg boots and slippers on and not take them off for the next three months. Through this time, you may encounter stains or dirt on your uggs that require washing and cleaning. Let us guide you through the cleaning and washing ugg boots process step by step, to leave your uggs and slippers feeling fresh and new every single time.

Washing ugg boots

Can you put uggs in the washing machine? We often get asked this question. Washing ugg boots in the washing machine is a popular and easy way to care for ugg boots at home. If you do it correctly, your uggs will come out looking and feeling as good as new.

  1. Put your ugg slippers in a mesh washing bag: Although this step is not essential, it is recommended as another level of protection for your slippers when they are washed.
  2. Load your uggs into the washing machine: No need for anything fancy, the standard family washing machine will do.
  3. Pour a small amount of odour and colour free washing detergent or powder into the dispenser: Play it safe and use a clear detergent to protect the sheepskin lining inside and any beige or light-coloured ugg boots and slippers.
  4. Set the cycle to DELICATES and the water to COLD WASH before starting the washing machine: This is the most important step! This will avoid any damage to your beloved uggs.
  5. Let them air dry overnight, or until completely dry.

Not one to wash uggs in the washing machine? You can also handwash your uggs using a damp cloth, our specialised shampoo and conditioner.

How to get rid of water stains on uggs

Did you get caught in the rain whilst wearing your uggs or ugg slippers out? No need to panic! Let us guide you through the steps to removing water stains from your uggs.

  1. Rub plain white chalk (yes, just trust us) on the water stains and leave it on the boots overnight. This should soak up most, if not all of the water.
  2. The following morning, using a suede brush or tooth brush to lightly buff off the remaining chalk. Then, repeat the process a little firmer over the water-affected areas to remove any final signs of chalk

How to dry wet uggs

Believe it or not, the most important part of any ugg washing and cleaning process is the drying. If you do not completely dry your ugg boots or slippers before re-wearing them, you can do damage to the inner lining.

Before the cleaning process

If you are drying uggs that got caught out in the rain, then the best way to remove any excess water is my shaking them off. Using a forceful shake and even wringing them out a number of times, enough water should come out to start the cleaning process.

If the sheepskin is still wet, then you can put them on a gentle, dry spin cycle in the washing machine. Only resort to this as a last option if possible.

After the cleaning process

The best way to dry uggs is by air drying. Allow your uggs to dry at room temperature for 24-48 hours, or until completely dry, before wearing them. If you find they need more time or more assistance to dry, then you can stuff the inside of your uggs with plain paper or roller towel.

Hanging them upside down may also help.

In any washing ugg boots, cleaning or drying process, our number one tip is to remain patient. If you try to speed up the timeline or take shortcuts, there is a good chance that you will damage your uggs... something we hope (and can) avoid!
